STICKS
The stick is possibly the most customized piece of gear a player has in his or her locker.
Many players opt for one- or two-piece composite sticks, as they are lighter and offer greater stiffness and power. However, some players have remained loyal to traditional wood sticks which are often more durable and may provide a preferred puck feel.
Composite stick shafts are made from a variety of synthetic materials, including Kevlar, carbon fibre, graphite and fiberglass. A one-piece composite stick combines the shaft and the blade into one powerful, ready-made unit. A two-piece stick involves buying a separate blade to attach to your composite shaft; these blades can be made of wood, composite materials or even plastic (idea for street and floor hockey).
Flex is an important part of every shot you take and the amount of flex you require depends on what kind of player you are. Stiffer sticks are great for heavier players or those who take a lot of slap shots. Lighter players and those taking mostly wrist shots will prefer something with more flex.
The kick point of your stick will determine where your stick flexes, which affects puck velocity - a critical factor in the success of every shot you take. Different manufacturers have differing philosophies on kick point, so shop around to find the brand that seems to best suit your style of play.
Blade pattern - the heel, mid and toe curve of the blade - is another crucial component of stick design that a player should take into account. Certain patterns are better for increasing the loft of your puck shots, while others are more suited to technical puck handling.
The final piece of the equation: stick length. Our sticks come in two lengths - Junior (53 inches long) and Senior (59 inches long). With a hacksaw and some hockey tape, you'll simply modify your stick to the length that suits you.
